Drone roof inspection questions
Straight answers about prices, what a drone can and cannot see, safety, privacy and the areas we cover.
How much does a drone roof inspection cost in Plymouth?
A targeted check of one area (such as a chimney or gulley) is £75. A full visual inspection of every accessible slope, chimney, valley and gutter with photos and 4K video is £150. Add an annotated PDF report for £200. We confirm the scope and price before we visit.
Is a drone inspection the same as a roof survey?
No. It is a visual inspection: we photograph and film what can be seen from the air. We cannot see under slates, test timbers or judge the structure. What it does well is show you, quickly and safely, whether there is a visible problem and where, so any hands-on work is focused on the right place.
Do I need scaffolding or a ladder for a drone inspection?
No. The drone takes off from the ground, so nobody needs to climb on your roof and nothing needs to be put up. That is the main saving: scaffolding or a cherry picker just to look at a roof costs far more than a drone check and takes longer to arrange.
Can a drone find where my roof is leaking?
Often, yes. Most leaks come from visible weak points: chimney flashing, lead valleys and gulleys, slipped slates, ridge mortar or blocked gutters. At Milehouse Road in Plymouth our drone pinpointed a failed lead gulley above a staircase leak, and the roofer replaced exactly that section.
What if it is windy or raining on the day?
Drones are weather-limited, so we only fly when it is safe and the images will be useful. If wind or rain rules out a flight, we move your inspection to the next suitable slot at no extra cost.
Do you do roof repairs as well?
No. We only do inspections, so we have no reason to find problems that are not there. If you need a roofer afterwards, we can recommend Tom Duggan Roofing, or you can send our photos to any roofer you trust to quote from.
Are you insured and do you fly legally?
Yes. We are fully insured and trained, and we fly under the UK Civil Aviation Authority's drone rules, checking airspace and any local restrictions before every flight. Ask and we will send our insurance details and CAA registration before your visit.
What about my neighbours' privacy?
We only photograph the property we have been asked to inspect. We plan flights to avoid filming people and neighbouring gardens, and anything captured by accident is cropped or blurred before you receive it.
Which areas do you cover?
We are based in Plymouth and cover the city and nearby towns including Plymstock, Plympton, Saltash, Torpoint, Ivybridge, Tavistock and Kingsbridge. If you are further afield, call us and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.
Can I use the photos for an insurance claim or a house purchase?
Yes. Every inspection gives you dated, high-resolution photographs. Homeowners use them to support storm damage claims, buyers use them to renegotiate or ask for repairs before exchange, and landlords keep them as a condition record between tenancies.
